Back-to-School Board Lesson

Back to school, school supplies

Frisco ISD - Great and Growing!

Last week, the Frisco Chamber celebrated more than 800 new Frisco ISD teachers and staff at our annual New Teacher Welcome. More than 50 business community members joined presenting sponsor, CoServ, with vendor booths offering samples and supplies that generously filled attendees’ swag bags.
“Frisco is well-known for its quality education system and strong community partnerships. Our business community understands the value of Frisco ISD and the important role that the teachers and staff play in developing our future workforce,” said Tony Felker, President/CEO of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce. “The school district also recognizes the value of involvement from the business community. Partnerships like these help us to continue to attract companies and employees to the area.”

School Calendar Dates

Family calendars are filling with “Meet the Teacher Nights” and squeezing in the tax-free holiday school shopping this weekend. Two days before school starts on August 10th, the Frisco ISD School Board will have their first meeting of the school year, on August 8th. While that may not be on your must-attend attend events, yet, this is a great way to be involved in your community.

What’s the Role of a School Board Trustee?

With school starting, we thought it would be a great opportunity to talk about the role of a Board of Trustee. According to the Texas Association of School Boards, the role of a school board member is to work together with fellow trustees to:

  • Ensure that a shared vision and goals are adopted for the district.
  • Ensure that systems and processes are in place to accomplish the district’s vision and goals.
  • Ensure progress and accountability to goals by allocating resources and support and establishing ongoing feedback and progress measures.
  • Advocate on behalf of all students to enable them to be successful.
  • Work effectively as a collaborative team member with fellow board members and the district superintendent.

Meet Your Frisco ISD School Board Trustees

Trustees are elected to three-year terms, at-large, to seven places; with at-large meaning they represent the entire school district boundary, not any particular region.

Current Frisco ISD Trustees are:

Rene Archambault, President – Place 7

Debbie Gillespie, Vice President – Place 5

Dynette Davis, Secretary – Place 4

Gopal Ponangi – Place 1

Marvin Lowe – Place 2

Stephanie Elad – Place 3

John Classe – Place 6

Our seven trustees focus on the following priorities for Frisco ISD:

  • Student learning
  • Safety & Security
  • Whole Child
  • Teacher Retention and Compensation
  • Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
  • Stakeholder Involvement
  • Fiscal Responsibility
