May 31, 2019 Contact: Karen Kim Senior Director of Marketing & Communications Office: (972) 335-9522 | Cell: (972) 900-9651 kkim@friscochamber.com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE What do Tony Felker, Mayor Cheney, Ashley Miller, Fire Chief Mark Piland, WFAA’s Joe Trahan, and Dallas Cowboy’s Rowdy all have in common? All are Frisco residents, movers-and-shakers in the community, and all were featured with JibJab style “fatheads” in this year’s winning Lip Sync Battle at the 2019 Frisco 5-Star Corporate Challenge. On Friday, May 24, 2019, teams of six competed for the coveted “Chamber Cup,” a Stanley-Cup look-alike. What began as a class project for Leadership Frisco Class XXVIII, is now an annual Frisco Chamber of Commerce event that pits local businesses against each other in a day-long competition. Individual events include golf, soccer, football, basketball, tricycle riding, tug-of-war, and even a human hamster ball race. Winners of each event are recognized, as well as first, second, and third place overall. As a way to give back to the community, the top three scoring teams pick a charity of choice, donating a portion of the event’s proceeds to their charity of choice. Outside of the crowd-favorite “Lip Sync Battle,” the tug-of-war competition took on a new format, engaging bracket-style play. In front of a cheering crowd, Team Omni Hotel Frisco earned the first place tug-of-war spot. “The Frisco 5-Star Corporate Challenge provides more than just bragging rights for the winning team,” shared Tony Felker, President/CEO of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce. “The Frisco 5-Star provides team-building opportunities. It’s always great to hear team members strategizing during the individual events and imagine how much team-building takes place planning and performing a lip sync routine.” This event also strengthens ties within the business community. “Although teams are competing against each other, the competition between the businesses is healthy and fun,” Felker said. The 5-Star Corporate Challenge also allows area businesses the opportunity to market their business through sponsorships. Sponsors have a variety of reasons for aligning with the Frisco Chamber at this event – some to promote a fun corporate culture, some to promote health and wellness, to give back to the community, and all to support the Frisco Chamber’s mission and the business community. Sponsors at this year’s event included Community Sponsor, Frisco Economic Development Corporation; Breakfast and Lunch Sponsor, CoServ; T-Shirt Sponsor, Custom Ink; Field Sponsor, Texas Health Presbyterian Plano; Cart Sponsor, Epic Carts, Beverage Sponsor, TUPPS Brewery, and Medical Tent Sponsor, Legacy ER & Urgent Care. A special thank you to Suad Bejtovic Photography and Orion Aerial Imaging for capturing the event in photos and video. Now in its fifth year, this friendly competition, coined the Ultimate Adult Field Day by Jeff Cheney, goes well beyond the day of the event. A Facebook page (@Frisco5Star) keeps the community connected, often with fun memes and funny videos. Photos and videos of the “Chamber Cup” all around Frisco can be seen on the Facebook page as well as this year’s Lip Sync Battle Videos. Banter about winning the 2020 Chamber Cup has already begun!
